Lyrics

"Show me, show me, show me how you do that trick The one that makes me scream", she said "The one that makes me laugh", she said And threw her arms around my neck Show me how you do it And I promise you, I promise that I'll run away with you I'll run away with you Spinning on that dizzy edge Kissed her face and kissed her head Dreamed of all the different ways I had to make her glow "Why are you so far away?", she said "Why won't you ever know that I'm in love with you That I'm in love with you?" You Soft and only You Lost and lonely You Strange as angels Dancing in the deepest oceans Twisting in the water You're just like a dream You're just like a dream Daylight licked me into shape I must've been asleep for days And moving lips to breathe her name I opened up my eyes And found myself alone, alone Alone above a raging sea That stole the only girl I loved And drowned her deep inside of me You Soft and lonely You Lost and lonely You Just like heaven

About

"Just like Heaven" is one of The Cure's most well-known and beloved songs. It was released as a single in 1987, and quickly became a top 40 hit in the UK and the US billboard charts. It was the third single released from their album "Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me". The song is known for its catchy chorus and Robert Smith's emotive vocals. The song is both adored by fans and has been praised by critics, with many citing it as their favourite Cure song. Even when he finished writing the song, Robert Smith told his band members that, "I'll never write something this good again". According to Smith the song is "about hyperventilating, kissing and fainting to the floor". The lyrics were inspired by a trip with his ex-girlfriend (and later wife) Mary Poole to Beachy Head in southern England. Smith explained the song's opening line referred to his childhood experiences of performing and perfecting magic routines. He then went on to say that it's also about a seduction technique from much later in my life. "Just Like Heaven" was the bands breakthrough in the US and it was their highest entry on the Hot 100, when it came in at #40. This would hold to be the most successful song until they released "Lovesong" in 1989 and is peaked at #2. The song has been covered by multiple artists including Dinosaur Jr., Kaie Melua, and has been released in multiple languages including Spanish, German & French. Robert Smith has personally said his favourite all-time cover version of his song, is Dinosaur Jr's. Based on the popularity of "Just Like Heaven", it comes as no surprise that it is extremely prevalent in movies and tv shows. It has featured in over 20 titles including "Going the Distance" (2010), "The Beach Bum" (2019), "How I Met Your Mother" (2005), "Adventureland" (2009), "A Million Little Things" (2018), and many many more. It even 'unsurprisingly' featured in the Reece Witherspoon comedy "Just Like Heaven" in 2005.
