Lyrics

I've waited hours for this I've made myself so sick I wish I'd stayed asleep today I never thought this day would end I never thought tonight could ever be This close to me Just try to see in the dark Just try to make it work To feel the fear before you're here I make the shapes come much too close I pull my eyes out Hold my breath and wait until I shake But if I had your faith Then I could make it safe and clean If only I was sure That my head on the door was a dream I've waited hours for this I've made myself so sick I wish I'd stayed asleep today I never thought this day would end I never thought tonight could ever be This close to me But if I had your face Then I could make it safe and clean Oh, if only I was sure That my head on the door was a dream

About

Close to Me is a song by English rock band the Cure, released in September 1985 as the second and final single from their sixth album, The Head on the Door. The song was written by frontman Robert Smith and bassist Simon Gallup. One of the best cure songs, both in terms of popularity and critical response. In recent years, "Close to Me" has been hailed as a classic of 1980s new wave music. The music video for "Close to Me" was directed by Tim Pope, who would go on to direct several more videos for the Cure. It features the band performing in various location in an abandoned Italian villa, intercut with footage of a pair of Siamese twins (played by Pauline Stone and Louise Page) eating, playing cards, and generally sitting around looking menacing. It was apparently inspired by a dream Smith had, where he was locked in a closet that fell of a cliff and into the ocean. The single was a moderate success, reaching number nine on the UK Singles Chart and number 26 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It has featured in many movies and shows "I Could Never Be Your Woman", "John Tucker Must Die", "Accepted", "The A Word", "Insatiable", and many more.
