Lyrics

We move like caged tigers Oh, we couldn't get closer than this The way we walk The way we talk The way we stalk The way we kiss We slip through the streets While everyone sleeps Getting bigger and sleeker And wider and brighter We bite and scratch and scream all night Let's go and throw All the songs we know... Into the sea You and me All these years and no one heard I'll show you in spring It's a treacherous thing "We missed you", hissed the lovecats We're so wonderfully wonderfully wonderfully Wonderfully pretty! Oh you know that I'd do anything for you... We should have each other to tea huh? We should have each other with cream Then curl up by the fire And sleep for awhile It's the grooviest thing It's the perfect dream Into the sea You and me All these years and no one heard I'll show you in spring It's a treacherous thing "We missed you", hissed the lovecats We're so wonderfully wonderfully wonderfully Wonderfully pretty! You know that I'd do anything for you... We should have each other to dinner We should have each other with cream Then curl up in the fire Get up for awhile It's the grooviest thing It's the perfect dream Hand in hand Is the only way to land And always the right way round Not broken in pieces Like hated little meeces... How could we miss Someone as dumb as this? I love you... let's go... Oh... solid gold... How could we miss Someone as dumb as this?

About

The Lovecats is a song by the English band The Cure, which was released as a single in October 1983. The song peaked at number 7 on the UK Singles Chart and was later included on the band's album The Top. It is one of the Cure's best pop songs, with Smith himself proclaiming it was "close to being the perfect pop song". After a trilogy of more intense, dark and moody songs, Lovecats came to Smith after her moved back into his parents home. The song is notable for its playful, jazzy sound, which contrasts sharply with the dark and angsty tone of much of The Cure's early work. Lyrically, the song is somewhat ambiguous and has caused some debate about its meaning. Robert Smith has suggested that it's about a suicide pact between two lovers and that he was inspired to write it after seeing the Disney film "Aristocats". The music video for "The Lovecats" is quite bizarre, with Smith proclaiming that it was made while they were drunk and it was more of a joke than anything else. The video features an early rough mix of the song done in Paris which is different from the one released on vinyl (the latter was done in London). To this day, it remains one of The Cure's most beloved and iconic songs, and has been covered by a number of artists over the years. It has also featured in a few movies and tv shows includig "D.E.B.S" (2004), "Dynasty" (2017) and season five of "NCIS".
