Lyrics
Saturday in the park I think it was the Fourth of July Saturday in the park I think it was the Fourth of July People dancing, people laughing A man selling ice cream Singing Italian songs Eh Cumpari, ci vo sunari Can you dig it? (yes, I can) And I've been waiting such a long time For Saturday Another day in the park I think it was the Fourth of July Another day in the park I think it was the Fourth of July People talking, really smiling A man playing guitar And singing for us all Will you help him change the world Can you dig it? (yes, I can) And I've been waiting such a long time For today Slow motion riders fly the colours of the day A bronze man still can tell stories his own way Listen children all is not lost All is not lost, oh no, no Funny days in the park Every day's the Fourth of July Funny days in the park Every day's the Fourth of July People reaching, people touching A real celebration Waiting for us all (Waiting for us all) If we want it, really want it Can you dig it? (yes, I can) And I've been waiting such a long time For the day
About
"Saturday in the Park" is a song written by Robert Lamm and performed by Chicago for their 1972 album Chicago V. The single was released in July 1972, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and number one on the Adult Contemporary chart. The song remains a staple of the group's live performances and was certified gold by the RIAA, after selling over one million units in the United States. The lyrics to "Saturday in the Park" reflect on a carefree day spent enjoying the company of friends and loved ones. It was actually written after Robert Lamm, spent July 4th in New York's, Central Park. He witnessed a huge number of eclectic performers, including singers, dancers and drum players. After arriving back to his hotel, full of the life and excitement he witnessed in the park, he said "Man, it's time to put music to this". Critics have praised "Saturday in the Park" as one of Chicago's best songs, with AllMusic calling it "a timeless classic." Rolling Stone ranked it number 486 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. In 2008, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. It has also featured in many television shows and movies, including "My Girl" (1991), "Little Nicky" (2000), "This is Us" (2016), "Fringe" (2008) and "The Wilds" (2020).
