"Is There a Ghost", was released on August 28th, 2007, and was the first single from Band of Horses' second album 'Cease to Begin. At the time, it was their most successful song ever recorded and reached #34 on the US alternative songs chart. It was their first single to ever chart in the United States. This was until "Casual Party" reached #27 almost a decade later. After mostly favourable critics reviews, Rolling Stone ranked it the 97th best song of 2007. The lead singer Ben Bridwell, has stated in an interview that the song was a response to his paranoia he used to experience when he was on his own. He used to think he was being watched whenever he was isolated. "Is there a Ghost" has featured in multiple tv shows and movies, with the most notable being the Robert Downey Jr. comedy "Due Date" in 2010. It also appeared in season two of the FOX network show, "Fringe".
