Lyrics

I'm coming up only to hold you under And coming up only to show you're wrong And to know you is hard, we wonder To know you all wrong, we were Ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh Really too late to call, so we wait for Morning to wake you is all we got But to know me as hardly golden Is to know me all wrong, they were At every occasion, I'll be ready for the funeral At every occasion once more, it's called the funeral At every occasion, oh, I'm ready for the funeral At every occasion of one billion day funeral I'm coming up only to you show you down for And coming up only to you show you're wrong To the outside, the dead leaves lay on the lawn 'Fore they died, and had trees to hang there upon Ooh, ooh Ooh, ooh At every occasion, I'll be ready for the funeral At every occasion once more, it's called the funeral At every occasion, oh, I'm ready for the funeral At every occasion of one billion day funeral

About

The Funeral is a song by the American rock band Band of Horses, taken from their debut studio album, Everything All the Time (2006). The alternative rock song was written by the band members. The song was released as the debut single from the band and lead single from the album. A live version of the song appeared earlier on the band's self-titled EP, under the original name "Billion Day Funeral". When asked about the lyrics to “The Funeral”, Ben Bridwell said that the song's meaning was about the special occasions in his own life, such as birthdays and Christmas. He compares the feeling he gets from occasions like this to the feeling you get before attending a funeral. A bleak and dreadful affair. The lyrics are written in a first-person perspective, and detail the events of the funeral itself. The song is melancholic and sombre, with a slow and steady tempo. The instrumentation consists of acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar and drums. The song was well-received by critics upon its release, who praised its emotional weight and lyrical depth. It has since become one of the band's most popular songs and has been covered by a number of artists. It has featured in more tv shows and episodes than any of Band of Horses other songs. Some of the more notable appearances are "Let's Be Cops" (2014), "Battleship" (2012), One Tree Hill (2003) & Money Heist (2017).
