Eerie flashback, re: driving to the Selective Service office, parking and walking in to register, still vivid fifty years on. Student deferment worked, but when the lottery set my number above the declared call for the first year, I gave up my deferment and went 1A for Nov and Dec. Friends said I was nuts, but they were true to their declaration, my year of prime eligibility was fulfilled, and I dodged the bullet. They took into the mid 300s the next years as I recall. This show never fails to surprise, and Fred Neil's song was a treasure. They have not missed yet.
