Young MC, real name Marvin Young, is a rapper and actor born to Jamaican immigrant parents in London. He is best known for his hit songs "Bust a Move" and "Principal's Office." Both pieces are from the album Stone Cold Rhymin'. At eight years old, Young left the UK. Later at the age of eight, he moved to Queens, New York. Young was honored at Hunter College High School's 2018 convocation, where he schooled. He continued to earn a degree in Economics from the University of Southern California (USC). Michael reportedly met Michael Ross and Matt Dike from Delicious Vinyl (a record company) at the University of Southern California, whom he rapped for over a phone call. His performance impressed Ross and Dike that they ended up delivering a record contract to his USC dorm room. Young MC began his career in the late 1980s when he was signed to Delicious Vinyl Records. His debut album, Stone Cold Rhymin', was released in 1989 and featured the hit single "Bust a Move." The song became a crossover success, reaching the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also won Young MC a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance. The album Brainstorm followed Stone Cold Rhymin' in 1991. The album did not achieve the same level of success as its predecessor but did contain the hit single "Principle of the Matter." Young MC has appeared in a number of films and television shows over the years, including the films House Party 2 and Beavis and Butt-head Do America. He has also made guest appearances on episodes of the TV series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Martin. In recent years, Young MC has continued to tour and perform his classic hits. He has also appeared as a judge on the TV show The Rap Game. He currently resides in Los Angeles, California.
