Lyrics

Shame, such a shame I think I kind of lost myself again Day, yesterday Really should be leaving, but I stay Say, say my name I need a little love to ease the pain Need a little love to ease the pain It's easy to remember, when it came 'Cause it feels like I've been, I've been here before You are not my savior, but I still don't go Feels like something that I've done before I could fake it but I still want more Fade, made to fade Passion's overrated anyway Say, say my name Need a little love to ease the pain I need a little love to ease the pain It's easy to remember when it came 'Cause it feels like I've been, I've been here before You are not my savior, but I still don't go, oh I feel live something that I've done before I could fake it but I still want more, oh

About

"Dissolved Girl" is a song by British trip hop group Massive Attack, released as the fourth single from their third studio album, Mezzanine (1998). The song features guest vocals from Sheffield-based singer Sara Jay. At the time, she was an unknown singer from Sheffield. Marc Picken, Massive Attack's manager, believed she would fit in seamlessly into the record. The band recorded an early demo version of the track before their 1997 tour. They took Jay on tour with them to perform this version of the song as a preview of Mezzanine. This demo would also be eventually show up on the soundtrack for the 1997 film The Jackal, starring Bruce Willis. The song was written by group members Robert "3D" Del Naja and Grantley Marshall, and produced by Del Naja, Marshall, and Neil Davidge. "Dissolved Girl" is a trip hop and electronica song that features a "moody" atmosphere and elements of hip hop and jazz. The lyrics were inspired by the work of American author Bret Easton Ellis, specifically his 1991 novel American Psycho. The song was released to critical acclaim and was a commercial success, peaking at number 21 on the UK Singles Chart. A remix by American DJ and producer Moby peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in the United States. In a 1998 interview, 3D explained that the track was about dysfunctional relationships. Sara had been going through a similar experience at the time, so it came together as the theme of the song. He went on to say that it explores how one relates to another person and the expectations each person has for the other. In this way, it's similar to their track "Angel." "Dissolved Girl" was also featured in the beginning of 1999's The Matrix when Neo listens to music before he wakes up in front of his computer to text appearing on his screen.
