(Oslo, Norway - 1961) Paul flushes his and Julia's celebratory dinner guest with wine when Julia calls him into the kitchen; Julia finishes up main course as Paul tells her the guest want to her letter; Julia and Paul return to the table with the gravlax where Heidi asks about the letter; after some prodding from Heidi and the guest Julia agrees to read the letter to them; Paul receives a phone call from the embassy summoning him, he announces that he and Julia maybe returning to Paris soon; the guest celebrate both Julia and Paul's good fortune.

At a diner, Alice reads Julia's cookbook when she's brought a very lackluster meal of meatloaf and potatoes which sours her mood.

At the doctor's office, Julia pulls into a state of sadness after her doctor informs her that she has begun menopause; unable to shake her emotional state Julia calls Paul but finds himself unable to inform him of her diagnosis; Heading to Savenor's, Julia runs into Dorothy and her daughter, who she remarks on before heading inside.

As Paul paints in his studio art room, Julia heads up to her office to type a letter; (repeats) [0:24] Paul calls Julia into his studio to view his finished painting inspired by her pear clafouti.
