Lyrics

Counting all different ideas drifting away Past and present, they don't matter Now the future's sorted out Watch her moving in elliptical pattern Think it's not what you say What you say is way too complicated For a minute, thought I couldn't tell how to fall out It's twenty seconds 'til the last call, going, "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey" Lie down, you know it's easy like we did it all summer long And I'll be anything you ask and more, going "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey" It's not a miracle we needed, and no I wouldn't let you think so Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it Girlfriend, oh, your girlfriend's drifting away Past and present, 1855-1901 Watch them build up a material tower Think it's not gonna stay anyway Think it's overrated For a minute, thought I couldn't tell how to fall out It's twenty seconds 'til the last call, going, "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey" Lie down, you know it's easy like we did it all summer long And I'll be anything you ask and more, going "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey" It's not a miracle we needed, and no I wouldn't let you think so Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it Fold it, fold it, fold it, fold it

About

"1901" is a song by the French rock band Phoenix. It was released as a single in February 2009 and became a hit in several countries. The song is included on the band's fourth studio album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix (2009). The song's title refers to the year of the birth of French aviator and filmmaker Georges Méliès, who is also mentioned in the lyrics. The music video for "1901" was directed by Méliès' great-grandson, Simon Astier. It pays tribute to Méliès' film A Trip to the Moon (1902) and features footage from the film. "1901" was acclaimed by music critics and was a commercial success. It peaked at number 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States and became Phoenix's first song to chart on the Hot 100. In France, the song entered the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP) singles chart at number one and was certified diamond by the SNEP. "1901" won Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal at the 52nd Grammy Awards. The song has been used in television shows and commercials. A cover version of "1901" was recorded by British rock band Muse for their live album Hullabaloo Soundtrack (2002). "1901" is Phoenix's most prevalent song to heard in film & television, with an ever-growing list of credits including "Boyhood" (2014), "The Hills" (2006), "Melrose Place" (2009), "Hellcats", (2010) "Gossip Girl" (2007) & "Made in Chelsea" (2011).
